Not one house…three houses (and we chose our favorite!)

Dear Reader,

Quick update from our Utah house hunt…

Last week, I shared pictures of three homes we put offers on. A few of you thought all those photos were from one house (which, to be fair, would’ve been quite the mansion 😅). But nope—those were House #1, House #2, and House #3.

And the winner is… Drumroll 🥁
Here’s the link to House #2
(and no we didn’t pay that price, we paid the price of house #1)

Our new street name is Bonnie Jean Lane so I have to include the GIF that my musical-theater-obsessed daughter sent from Brigadoon.

It has the same floor plan as House #1, but with some fabulous upgrades: luxury plank vinyl instead of white carpet in the basement, a full second kitchen, and an entire bedroom turned into a massive master closet (perfect for my husband—yes, the “shoe horse” in the family—who owns more shoes than me 👟👠).

And honestly—that’s exactly how Profit First banking works for your money.

With Profit First, all your revenue first lands in one “income” account. Then—just like placing couches into the right room—it gets allocated into specific accounts:

  • Profit 🏆
  • Owner’s Pay 👩‍💼
  • Taxes 💸
  • Operating Expenses 🛠
  • Plus any other “rooms” your business needs

It’s the opposite of chaos—it’s clarity.

One of my wealthiest friends, a VP of a major bank, does the exact same thing. He has 10+ accounts: one for cars, one for kids’ college tuition, one for house repairs, one for investments. He doesn’t call it Profit First, but that’s exactly what it is: envelope budgeting with bank accounts.

Here’s the thing: once you experience this system, you’ll never go back to the Chase/Wells Fargo way of doing business.

That’s why I recommend Relay Bank. It’s like Profit First in a box:
✔ Up to 20 free checking accounts (yes, 20!)
✔ Automatic allocations (weekly, daily, or monthly)
✔ No minimum balances
✔ No hidden fees

👉 Open your free Relay account today with our partner link and see how easy it is to manage your business cash flow with clarity.

You don’t have to be ready to do it all at once. Open your FREE account today. If you have an EIN number, your social, and your company name that is all you need. It doesn't take 45 minutes like your Chase account, it literally takes 2 minutes.

Trust me: once you see your “floor plan” for money, you’ll never go back.

To couches (and cash) in the right places,

Profitably Yours,

Karen Lake

Hi Reader, Karen here — coming to you from our new home in Utah! 🏠We’ve been here about 5–7 weeks now, and we really love it. The neighbors have been kind, our church community has been incredibly welcoming, and it’s already starting to feel like home. But let me confess something… Even though the house was move-in ready, little things I want to “fix” keep popping up — and my first instinct? Spend the money now.Make it pretty now.Don’t look at my envelopes. Don’t check the budget. Just get it...
